It’s going to be a busy next four days for the Clayton State University women’s basketball team.
Of course, the main event is tonight, Friday, Mar. 25, at 8 p.m., when the 34-1 Lakers take on Michigan Tech in the NCAA Division II National Championships in St. Joseph’s, Mo. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2, and two local restaurants, Skyboxx (formerly Boston’s), 2180 Mt. Zion Pkwy., and Rocky’s Café & Pizza, 2262 Lake Harbin Rd., will be showing the game live on the big screen.
The morning after the finals, the Lakers will fly back to Atlanta on AirTran, arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport at 2:57 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 26. A “welcome home” event has been planned by both the University and the City of Morrow, culminating when the Lakers return to the Athletics & Fitness Center, probably between 3:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Naturally, all Laker fans are invited to watch the game and join in the welcome home event.
Finally, after a day of rest, Clayton State Coach Dennis Cox, the Russell Athletic/WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association) Division II National Coach of the Year, will be appearing on Fox5’s Good Day Atlanta on Monday, Mar. 28 to discuss the Lakers and their season. He might even bring a couple of the Laker players along for the interview, which will air live between 9:10 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.
