After much anticipation, Clayton State University launched its newly redesigned website on Friday, Dec. 15, completing a two-year project to update the site to meet the University’s strategic goals.
Led by the Office of Marketing and Communications, the website redesign project aligns with Strategic Plan 2022, particularly focused on promoting and strengthening the brand, as well as supporting increased enrollment and retention.
“There is no doubt that prospective students spend a significant amount of time learning about a university on its website, and we want to know more about who is visiting ours,” said Dr. Stephen Schultheis, assistant vice-president of enrollment management. “Our website is now aimed at providing prospective students easy access to the multiple reasons they should consider Clayton State University as well as providing us with significant data to understand our audience. We are looking forward to engaging with our prospective students through our newly launched site.”
Clayton State entered the digital space with the launch of its first website in 1998. Over the years, the look of the website evolved in response to current design trends.
By 2015, the University sought out Stamats, Inc., an Iowa-based higher-education marketing firm, to help the University redesign and re-structure the website in a way that would address user experience, search engine optimization, brand, content, accessibility, and performance.
Stamats, Inc. was tasked with developing a design and content structure that would improve the overall appearance and functionality of the University website including:
- Improved layout and navigation
- Consistent brand voice across the website
- Enhanced accessibility for persons with disabilities
- Improved integration and presence across its social media platforms, University Newsroom, Laker Connection, and virtual tour
- Build presence and ranking in organic web searches
- Optimized conversion for increased prospective student inquiry pools
Georgia Institute of Technology’s AMAC Accessibility Solutions and Research Center also provided support with compliance with American Disability Association standards, WCAG 2.0.
“Clayton State and Stamats teams collaborated intensely and productively throughout this process. We cherish the partnership,” said Becky Morehouse, senior vice president at Stamats, Inc. “Our work together reflects a true collegiality where we all work toward the same important goal—to tell the Clayton State University story so compellingly and consistently that it moves the university, its students, and its communities forward.”
The completed project consisted of the redesign of the top three levels of navigation including the four college landing pages. Additionally, the University simultaneously launched the Undergraduate Admissions website. A total of 200 pages were redesigned and more than a third of web traffic will be impacted by the project.
“The launch of Clayton State University’s new website is the culmination of two years of diligent work to develop an engaging and welcoming user experience that we are sure prospective students, their parents, and the campus will appreciate,” said Maritza Ferreira, assistant vice-president of marketing and communications. “Most importantly, the website provides a clear and consistent expression of our brand and motto–Dreams. Made Real.”
The redesign was made possible by the support of the President’s office and University administration, in addition to more than 300 students, alumni, faculty, and staff across campus.
