Clayton State University’s dental hygiene program ranks number one in the 2017 Top Online Colleges for Dental Hygiene Degrees compiled by research publisher SR Education Group.
The University offers an online B.S. in Registered Dental Hygiene Degree completion program. Clayton State was evaluated among colleges and universities nationwide on a number of factors including tuition rates, to determine which schools offer the best value for students.
“Being positioned as first among all dental hygiene degree completion programs in the nation is a great honor,” says Dr. Susan Duley, Chair of the Dental Hygiene Dept. “This ranking will also serve as a guarantee to all applicants that by attending Clayton State University they will receive the best degree completion education possible.”
Dr. Duley notes the dental hygiene program provides already licensed dental hygienists course content to enhance their alternative practice opinions. A course directed at community hygiene principles, for example, further educates students on both community professional practice and collaborative inter-professional practice.
The Clayton State University Department of Dental Hygiene Summer Institute was launched last year to offer students seeking to move into teaching a required clinical teaching internship at an accelerated pace. Students were offered on-campus housing to complete the course.
“Students completing the educational methodology and internship course are qualified to apply as a clinical faculty member in any dental hygiene program because they can document background in educational methodology,” Dr. Duley says. “This qualification is required for faculty in all programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).”
