Term to Study Abroad: May-Term 2019. This is the Maymester period between the Spring and Summer semester. This period will not interfere with Spring and Summer course schedules.
Orientation dates with the Study Abroad Office: To register for orientation with the Study Abroad Office, visit the Study Abroad Application Portal. Students attending orientation must have applied for a study abroad program and made their first payment. This is a pre-departure orientation for students who are traveling abroad with the program. Date and Time for Orientation is Thursday, February 21, 2019, from 6:30 - 9:00 PM.

This week long study abroad program in Georgetown, Guyana will provide students in the social sciences with opportunities to work with a diverse group of community partners including governmental agencies such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports, Guyana Prisons and non-governmental organizations such as Monique’s Helping Hands Support Center. Students will gain exposure to the rich culture in Guyana and gain a better understanding of socio-political factors that affect development and mental health. In addition, students will facilitate psycho-educational workshops and trainings targeting children, adolescents and adults at various community agencies. Tentative topics for the trainings include Healthy Parenting, Prevention of Youth Violence, Psychology of Prison and Promotion of Well-Being through Youth Sports.
What is included: The cost will include round-trip airfare, transportation to and from the hotel to various agencies and activities, hotel room shared with a student of the same gender, administration cost for the host agencies, and cultural activities. Documents Required for the Study Abroad Program: These documents will be processed in the online Study Abroad Application Portal.
1. Guyana Application Contract
a. The student will complete their application document(s). The document(s) must be completed in order to make your first payment. See steps below.
b. Due by or before the first payment deadline Monday, January 28, 2019.
c. The Program Director will approve the student’s application material clearing the student for the study abroad program.
d. Once the student has been approved by the Program Director, the students will receive the Bursar Payment Form. Print this document and take it to the Bursar Office to make your first payment in person. After making your first payment in person, students may follow the online payment instructions for the Bursar Office. The online payment instructions are listed in the Study Abroad Application Portal.
e. Keep a copy for your records!

4. Guyana Student Program Guide

Total Cost of Program: $2,763.75
First Payment & Deposit: Monday, January 28, 2019, of $1,288.00
*Reserve your spot on the program by making your first payment.
Second Payment: Tuesday, February 26, 2019, of $1,288.00
*After your second payment is received, you will be enrolled in the academic course. Don’t forget this does NOT include TUITION.
Final Payment: Monday, March 25, 2019, of $307.75
*Pay close attention to the Add/Drop period for the Summer Semester and the programs withdrawal deadlines. Tuition payments will be due in late April (see Academic Calendar).
Payments need to be made to the Bursar Office.
Payments: In order to reserve your spot on the program, begin making the necessary payments. Students must make their program payments in full and have paid for tuition in order to remain in the study abroad program. Once students have made their second program payment, the Program Director will enroll the student in the study abroad course.
Non-Credit Seeking Students, Alumni, Spouses, and Children are restricted from attending a study abroad program at Clayton State University, which is in accordance to the University System of Georgia (USG) regulations. Only credit seeking Clayton State students are eligible to attend a study abroad program.
STUDENTS MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE REQUIRED HEALTH CLEARENCE FORM HAS BEEN APPROVED & CLEARED. IF YOUR HEALTH CLEARENCE HAS BEEN DENIED BY YOUR PHYSICIAN PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE WITHDRAWAL DATES. Students must complete the Health Clearance Form before Tuesday, February 26, 2019, in order to receive a full refund, excluding the non-refundable deposit of $250.00. Remember, this form must be mailed by your physician or University Health Services (UHS) to the Clayton States’ Office of International Programs. The Health Clearance Form is mandated by the university for all students attending a study abroad program. Students must be cleared to travel.

• Withdrawal on or before Tuesday, February 12, 2019: Complete refund excluding the non-refundable deposit of $250.00.
• Withdrawal after Tuesday, February 26, 2019: Costs for airfare, rail, admissions, and hotel(s) (including any cancellation penalties or charges imposed by the airline, hotel, or other prepaid expenses) and all administrative fees incurred are forfeited: the remainder will be refunded, excluding the non-refundable deposit of $250.00.
• Withdrawal on or after Monday, March 25, 2019: All costs are forfeited; no refunds.

Add/Drop/Withdrawal Periods from the Course: Students who are considering dropping the course need to refer to the Academic Calendar for the current semester to review add/drop dates, withdrawal dates, etc. to make sure these dates do not affect your withdrawal process from the study abroad program.
