VA Major Changes

Changes in your major can affect your VA Education Benefits.

For Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation Recipients:

  • Prior to changing your major, get permission from your Voc Rehab Counselor.
  • After approved, please have your Voc Rehab Counselor submit a VA FORM 28-1905 with the approved Major.
  • Minors must also be approved by the Voc Rehab Counselor

For Chapter 35: Dependents/Spouse Education Assistant Program Recipients:

  • After Major Change is approved by the Department, please submit a VA Form 22-5495: Change of Program.
  • If Major Change is effective during current term, please be sure your current classes are required for the new program. If not, your enrollment certification has to be adjusted.
  • If Major Change is effective the next term, please be sure to register for classes that pertain to the new program.
  • Consider the remaining eligibility time and determine if you will be able to complete the program in the remaining time.

For All Other VA Benefit Recipients:

  • After Major Change is approved by the Department, please submit a VA Form 22-1995: Change of Program.
  • If Major Change is effective during current term, please be sure your current classes are required for the new program. If not, your enrollment certification has to be adjusted.
  • If Major Change is effective the next term, please be sure to register for classes that pertain to the new program.
  • Consider the remaining eligibility time and determine if you will be able to complete the program in the remaining time.
