Dr. Furlong received her B.S. in Biology from Georgia State University in 1994 and her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Georgia in 2000. She joined Clayton State University in 2000 as an assistant professor of Biology. She is currently a full professor and has been the Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences since Fall 2007. She teaches Introductory Microbiology, Microbiology for Health Sciences, Biology, Biocomputing, Microbial Ecology, and Applied and Environmental Microbiology. She mentors undergraduate research projects related to microbial ecology and environmental microbiology. While her administrative duties keep her very busy, she sincerely enjoys teaching undergraduate students in the classroom, laboratory and in the field. Dr. Furlong advises Biology majors and post baccalaureate students. Her area of advising specialty is Pre Veterinary Medicine.
