Janet Hamilton, MA, RCEP, CSCS completed her masters degree in Exercise Physiology at the University of Alabama Birmingham, having previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Alabama Huntsville and an Associates degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama Birmingham.  She practiced in orthopedic clinical rehabilitation clinics for 20 years with a primary emphasis on sports medicine, functional & biomechanical analysis, and intervention through the use of functional exercises as well as foot orthotic fabrication.  Gait analysis became a key element of her practice which eventually focused heavily on distance runners.

Following a move to the Atlanta area from her previous home in Portland Oregon, she became interested in teaching at the Undergraduate level and accepted an Assistant Professor position at Clayton State University in 2000 and held that position through 2007.  Along with her colleague (now retired) Cindy Lauer, MS, ATC, LAT, she developed the Bachelors Degree program in Health & Fitness Management at Clayton State.  She developed and taught Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Testing & Prescription, and Personal Health as well as a seminar in Pharmacology for Health & Fitness Majors which has since been redeveloped into its existing form as Substance Use in Health & Fitness.

She has been a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for nearly 30 years and served for 9 years on the Committee on Certification and Registry Boards Exam Development Team.  She is a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist through the ACSM.  She has been a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association for nearly 30 years and holds the credential of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  She has published research in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, as well as presenting research at the 2005 and 2006 Annual Meeting of the ACSM.  She has authored numerous articles published in NSCA and ACSM publications as well as contributing to articles in Women's Health, Men's Health, Runners World, Running Times and other popular magazines. She is on the Advisory Board for Runners World.  She published the book Running Strong & Injury Free in 2000.
