Personal Information

 
 
 

George Nakos is Professor of Marketing at Clayton State University.  He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Doctorate in Business Administration from United States International University in San Diego, California.  George taught for 3 years at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he has been teaching for the last 19 years at Clayton State University.  He has received several awards and recognitions for his teaching, research, and service activities.  In 2005 he received the prestigious Alice Smith outstanding professor of the year award given by Clayton State University. 

 

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he has served in various committees both in the University and in the wider business community.  He has been the chair of the University Curriculum committee and the University Promotion and Tenure committee.  He has also been a member of several committees that administer the allocation of internal grants.  In recent years he has served as an external grant evaluator for the Greek Educational ministry and the Athens University of Business and Economics.  In this capacity he made decisions in the allocation of research funds totaling a million dollars.  He has been involved in serving the profession by serving as a president or vice-president of the Academy of International Business Southeast USA, an organization dedicated in promoting the study of International Business.

 

George’s research work focuses on small and medium-sized organizations and entrepreneurial activities.  His work has been publishes in leading journals including, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of International Management, International Business Review, Journal of Small Business Management, and Thunderbird International Business Review.
