Dr. Brigitte Byrd specializes in poetry as a genre and performance theory. She is a transnational writer whose work reflects her interest in prose poetry and hybrid genres as well as otherness and/or alienation.
Dr. Byrd teaches creative writing, contemporary poetry, and multicultural literature, both at the graduate and undergraduate level. She directs creative and scholarly undergraduate and graduate theses in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. She supervises internships for Cygnet, the student magazine of art and literature, and she coordinates the Visiting Writers Reading Series.
