Thank you for your interest in the Clayton State University’s Film and Digital Media Center! This application is to take the Georgia Film Academy Program at Clayton State University. We are excited to hear about your interest in our film industry training program. We also offer continuing education classes in Editing, Writing and After Effects (no application needed for these courses).
Due to the high demand, we are having interested students apply to take the Georgia Film Academy Program as a Continuing Education program at Clayton State University. Although we work with the Georgia Film Academy, this application process is administered and processed by Clayton State University and is not administered nor processed by the Georgia Film Academy. Interested persons should submit 2 copies of the application package, in separate binders, to our department in the following order. These application packet (binders) are entirely created by the applicant. There is no pre-filled form.
Current work resume. Preferably one page. Maximum of two pages. This does not need to contain film production experience.
Why do you want to become a member of the film industry. What are your goals in the film industry?
From a professional colleague, current/former instructor or current/former collaborator. These do not need to be from film industry members.
In three hundred words or less (no more than one page, double-spaced), describe an experience in which you exercised leadership and/or took part in a productive collaboration.
All work must be your original work. Choose no more than a combination of three (3) of the following:
This film production program is dedicated to training entry-level crew members (grips, sound, production assistants, art department, etc…) and workforce development. This program is not focused on content creation (directing, producing, etc…), although content creators can benefit from the knowledge gained in this program. With that in mind, you can submit a work sample that demonstrates your previous experience/knowledge in a filmmaking craft or that would illustrate how you perform:

Due to limited seating, students admitted into the first class of the production program are not automatically admitted to the “On Set Experience” internship. Students must apply to the “On Set Experience” internship after successfully completing the first class.
There may be an interview following the applications for further admission consideration.

Is this an application to Clayton State University?
This is not an application to receive an academic degree from Clayton State University, but rather an application to take a continuing education class (film production) at the Film and Digital Media Center. Because of the popularity of the course, we have more people interested in the course than there are seats available and we are having interested students apply. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate from the Georgia Film Academy. If you are interested in pursuing a degree at Clayton State University, you would need to apply through the Office of Admissions www.clayton.edu/admissions
Can I submit an electronic copy of the application?
We would like physical copies of your resume, statement of purpose, leadership/collaboration anecdote printed in a binder and delivered to the address above. Depending on the type of work sample, those can be electronic and should accompany the binder material in a data DVD or on a flash drive. One copy for each binder.
Why do you no longer have a wait list?
Due to the demand of the program, we had over 250 people on the wait for the Fall 2016 classes, for only 25-75 seats. In order to do a proper evaluation of all those interested, an application process was put in place.
I am a degree-seeking student at Clayton State University, do I need to apply?
No. This application process is only for people seeking to take the class through Continuing Education. If you are already enrolled at Clayton State, please sign up for the course through your class registration.
When do I pay for the course?
Once you have applied and been accepted into the program, you would need to pay to register for the course. From the date of acceptance, you will have 5 days to register and pay for the course. After 5 days, if you have not paid for the course, that seat could go to another potential student.
