Computer science skills are in high demand. For example, the median annual earnings for computer and information scientists in 2006 was $93, 950 (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics). The objective of the minor is to more fully prepare students with strong mathematics backgrounds for careers where a deeper understanding of Computer Science would provide a benefit beyond the normal coursework in their major. The minor is an 18-hour program, and is designed to provide students with strong mathematics backgrounds the computing skills they are likely to need in graduate school or industry.
To complete the minor, students will complete CSCI 1301, CSCI 1302 and CSCI 2302 - for a total of 9 hours. They will then need to complete an additional 9 hours of upper-division computer science electives.
