Who are the D.E.E.P. Educators?
The D.E.E.P. Educators aim to promote inclusion, equity, access, and harmony at Clayton State University, offer programs that educate the campus about diversity, and advocate for underrepresented populations.
D.E.E.P. Educators complement the diversity efforts of the Department of Campus Life and work collaboratively with this unit to develop and implement programs, trainings, and various initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities at Clayton State University:
The D.E.E.P Educators are a group of trained, student leaders that facilitate diversity trainings and programs for Clayton State students. Peer Educators’ activities include:
- Celebrating the heritage and history of the various cultural groups at Clayton State University, locally and globally.
- Developing and implementing diversity workshops for student organizations, faculty and staff.
- Facilitating dialogues on social issues and injustices.
- Advocating for historically marginalized populations.
Benefits of Becoming a D.E.E.P. Educator:
- Develop intercultural competency skills (i.e., communication, effective leadership, collaboration, meaningful relationships, etc.)
- Learn how to address biased perspectives, opinions, and comments effectively.
- Enhance knowledge of social issues and injustices as well as challenges faced by underrepresented groups.
- Learn self-advocacy skills to empower self and other groups.

How to Join D.E.E.P. Peer Educators?
Individuals interested in D.E.E.P. must possess a strong interest in diversity education and social justice work; be a full-time student; have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average; and able to complete all aspects of the training program. The organization accepts applications throughout the year; however, formal recruitment takes place during the month of March. Submit completed application to Department of Campus Life, located in Suite 223.

D.E.E.P. Program Workshops
The D.E.E.P. Educators develop and facilitate workshops covering a variety of topics, including, but not limited to: complexity of identity, cross-cultural communication, multicultural competency, self-awareness, privilege/oppression, age/ageism, ability/abelism, class/classism, race/racism, gender/sexism, religious diversity/oppression, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation/heterosexism, stereotypes, and many other salient diversity topics. Workshops can be customize to meet the learning outcomes and needs of your class or group.
Who Can Request a Workshop?
- Faculty can request a workshop for their students in place of instruction or during his/her absence from class.
- Student organizations can request a workshop to train their leaders and members.
- Resident Assistants can request a workshop to train staff and improve intercultural skills and relationships with residents.
