The Clayton State University Alternative Break Service Trips offer students the opportunity to engage in community-based service projects during the University’s designated semester breaks to develop an understanding and appreciation of the issues people across the world encounter daily. Students will walk away from the experience with a deeper understanding of volunteerism, community service and activism to help create change.
For this year’s Alternative Spring Break Service Days, we will work with a different metro Atlanta area non-profit organization each day. Each of these organizations will allow participants the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community and become more socially aware of the issues around us.

The Alternative Break Program is an opportunity for students to engage in community-based projects during Clayton State University’s Winter, Spring, and Summer Breaks. This program was developed to help foster an understanding and appreciation of the issues people of various communities encounter daily. Clayton State Students are able to immerse themselves in a community different than their own by traveling to another location during their break and living and working in the community that the students will be partnering with. Students return from the experience with a deeper understanding of volunteerism, community service, activism, and a greater appreciation for diverse populations. The mission of all Clayton State University’s Service Learning programs is to serve as a catalyst to move students on a continuum from being a part of a community to becoming community change agents.
