Clayton State University students are invited to
enhance their degree program with a minor in Finance.
The minor is met through successful completion of the
following requirements (15 hours):
Required Course (3 hours)
FINA 3101: Corporate Finance (3 hours)
This course is an introduction to the principles of
corporate finance. Main topics covered are time value of
money, valuation of fixed-income and equity securities,
capital budgeting, risk and return, and cost of capital. Prerequisites

ACCT 3351: Intermediate Financial Accounting I (3)
An in-depth analysis of recording, reporting and
disclosure issues for external analysis in the
contemporary firm. Accounting theory and current
professional standards are stressed. Content emphasis on
assets and liabilities with corresponding income
FINA 3100: Personal Financial Management (3)
This course is designed to provide students a framework
for developing a personal financial plan suitable for
different stages of life. The course addresses topics
such as setting financial goals, constructing personal
financial statements, investments in stocks, bonds, and
mutual funds, retirement planning, loans, credit, and
FINA 4101: Investments (3)
This course exposes students to investment valuation and portfolio
management. Topics covered include modern portfolio
theory, fixed income, equity, and derivative securities.
FINA 4102; Intermediate Finance (3)
This course focuses on corporate investment and financing
decisions. Topics include capital budgeting, capital
structure, cost of capital, dividend policy, mergers and
acquisitions, working capital management, and international finance. Prerequisites
FINA 4103: Money and Banking – Domestic and International Markets (3)
This course introduces students to various financial markets,
financial instruments, and financial institutions.
Coverage is given to money markets, stock market, bond
market, mortgage market, and derivatives market.
Additional topics include interest rate risk, term
structure, and risk management of financial intermediaries.
DECLARE/ADDITION OF A MINOR To Declare a Minor in Supply Chain Management
Change/Addition of a Minor Form and turn it into The
College of Business' Office of Academic and Career
Advisement. Students must also submit a
Finance Minor Supplement Form with their graduation
application for the minor to be recorded on transcripts.
