Below is a description of each of the mandatory fees*:
Athletic fee:The Athletic Fee supports the intercollegiate athletic programs of the university. Students who have paid the fee are granted free admission to all regular season games in all sports. Intercollegiate sports include basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, cross-country, and outdoor track and field. For more information on the Athletic fee, please visit http://www.claytonstatesports.com. LakerCard Fee: The LakerCard is the official Student, Faculty, and Staff ID for Clayton State University. It is also a Library Card and a financial transaction card. It is intended to be used the entire time you are at Clayton State as a student. The fee for the LakerCard supports the variety of uses of this card. The fee funds operations of the card including hardware maintenance, card supplies, staff salaries and operating expenses, and supports the expansion of card services across campus. LakerBucks, Meal Plans/Dining Dollars, door access to student living facilities, and laundry are a few services that use the LakerCard. Other services for which the student needs a LakerCard are copying, SmartPrint, vending faxes and mailing services. Health fee: The Health Fee covers unlimited office visits to University Health Services (UHS), free over the counter medications, and prophylactics. For specific questions, students should contact that office at(678) 466-4940which is open 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:00am-3:00pm on Friday. Please call for physician and nurse practitioner hours as these may vary. UHS provides non-urgent primary care for the entire university community. A sample of the services UHS provides include: GYN exams, immunizations, any lab test, physical exams, STD screenings (look for free offers once a semester!), and blood pressure checks. A few of the many illness and injuries UHS treats include: colds/flus, minor cuts and burns, sprains/strains, STDs, and stomach ailments. University Health Services also offers generic non-controlled medications such as antibiotics to save you a trip the pharmacy! Institutional Fee: In Fall 2009, the Board of Regents experienced unprecedented budget cuts due to the economic downturn that drastically reduced state revenues, thus resulting in the necessity to levy a fee to compensate for the reduction. The Special Institutional Fee is prorated and is used to fund certain functions of the institution. Parking fee: This fee covers the cost of a vehicle parking permit for each student as well as other services for the safety of students connected with the Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety is comprised of the four components: public safety officers; communication operators; security guards; and parking patrol. The public safety officers are all certified through the state of Georgia’s Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission to carry firearms and are sworn law enforcement officers with full arrest powers. The Department of Public safety is a full service law enforcement agency that is dedicated to fostering a cooperative working relationship with the University community to ensure the safety and security of an environment that is conducive to teaching, learning, research and public service. This department operates 24/7 and also provides other services including educational programs about public safety and crime prevention,communications (non-emergency and emergency calls), signage for parking lots, and maintenance of the parking lots. Technology Fee:The technology fee supports the access of students to the HUB for the technical support for the students. The Hub installs software such as Microsoft Office, Windows 7, LANDesk Antivirus, Smart Print and class specific software. These software installations purchase instructional technology that directly benefits students. Assistance with hardware repairs such as RAM, hard drive, preferred vendor warranty repairs, and one on one software is also available at the Hub. Clayton State provides each student with a 25 GB web drive. This can be used for web space and other school related projects. Internet access while you are on campus is a service of the technology fee. Internet access includes website browsing, email, and campus printing. Student Activity fee:The Student Activity Fee supports many co-curricular activities at the University, including, but not limited to access to all sporting events using their Laker Card, campus events that involve the student body (i.e. Homecoming, Spring Fling, Safety Awareness, Build a Bear, Guest Speakers,access to tutoring in all subjects,discounts to music concerts at Spivey Hall, and dental hygiene visits. Student Activity Center fee: The Student Activities Center (SAC) is the hub for student activities, student organizations, programming and events, fitness, intramural sports, recreation, and fun at Clayton State University! Our 62,000 square foot state of the art facility is equipped with a 4,800 square foot Ballroom, attractive outdoor green space and other auxiliary spaces including an interactive game room, a music café and lounge area. It is also home to our high-tech, up-beat fitness center, and basketball courts. The building opened its doors in 2008 and is supported by student activity fees and rentals. Students can enjoy all the amenities free of charge through enrollment. Not only is the SAC the hub for all student organizations, the SAC can host conferences, seminars, corporate meetings, and fundraisers; or holiday and birthday parties, weddings, receptions, and family reunions (additional fees may apply).
