LIMITATION ON INSTITUTIONAL LIABILITY
In the event that an administrative hearing officer or a court of record determines that "publications" issued by the University create a contractual or quasi-contractual relationship with any person, the amount of damages recoverable by the parties shall be limited to the amount of consideration paid by the person for the privilege of admission, enrollment, continued enrollment or other service rendered by the institution to such person. As used herein, the term "publications" (without limiting the generality of the normal meaning of the term) shall be deemed to include any and all written forms or other documents issued by the institution concerning applications for admission, enrollment or continued enrollment, waivers of liability, consents to medical treatment, dormitory occupancy, and any and all other written forms, documents, letters or other materials, issued by the University in furtherance of its educational mission.

The Clayton State University catalog is designed to provide information about the University’s policies, degree programs, course offerings, services, faculty, and facilities. Statements set forth in this catalog are for informational purposes only and should not be construed as the basis of a contract between a student and this institution.
While the provisions of the University Catalog will ordinarily be applied as stated, Clayton State University reserves the right to change any provision listed – including but not limited to academic requirements for graduation – without actual notice to individual students.
Every effort will be made to keep students advised about all changes, and information on changes will be available in the Office of the Registrar (www.clayton.edu/). It is especially important that each student note that it is his or her responsibility to remain apprised of current graduation requirements for particular degree and certificate programs.
NOTICE OF PRIVACY RIGHTS
This institution is covered by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), which is designed to protect the student’s rights with regard to educational records maintained by the institution. Under this Act, a student has the following rights:
A written policy detailing how Clayton State University complies with the provisions of the Act is on file in the Office of the Registrar. Students also have the right to file complaints with the FERPA Office of the Department of Education, Washington, D.C. 20201, regarding alleged violations of the Act.
NO SMOKING POLICY
Because Clayton State University cares about the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff, and the public, smoking is NOT permitted inside any building on campus.
NOTICE: LAW ENFORCEMENT
It is the purpose of the Department of Public Safety to assist the administration, faculty, students, and staff of Clayton State University to maintain a pleasant safe, and orderly environment in which to work and to learn. To this end it is the responsibility of this department to enforce the traffic rules and regulations of the University and to enforce local, state, and federal laws on Campus in cooperation with appropriate law enforcement agencies. Violation of a local, state, or federal law by a student also may be a violation of the student conduct code set down in the Student Handbook; in such a case the violation will he referred to the Office of Student and Enrollment Services in addition to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
