Two New Department Chairs in Arts & Sciences
Dean Dr. Nasser Momayezi is pleased to announce that Mara Mooney will serve as chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Dr. Shayla Mitchell will serve as interim chair of the Department of Teacher Education in FY 2015-16.
Mara has been a faculty member at Clayton State University for 15 years. She has served as chair of the University Curriculum Committee, chair of the Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee, and for four years served as coordinator of the Legal Studies program. She is an honors graduate of Emory University School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Fellow and “Notes & Comments” editor in the law review. Mara has several other publications, including a textbook on the fundamentals of Georgia’s real estate laws.
Shayla has been with the Department of Teacher Education at Clayton State University since 2008, after she received her Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from Georgia State University. In her seven years with us, Shayla served as the MAT coordinator, coordinator of Field Experiences and edTPA coordinator.
Please join me in congratulating Mara and Shayla and in wishing them the best in their new positions.
Also, join me in bidding a fond farewell to Dr. Rafik Mohamed, chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Dr. Ruth Caillouet, chair of the Department Teacher Education. Rafik has accepted a position as dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the California State University in San Bernardino, and Ruth has become associate dean of Education at Georgia Gwinnett College. As mentors and role models for their faculty members, both Rafik and Ruth have provided sound guidance on how to move their respective departments forward. We truly appreciate their effective leadership and the service they provided to Clayton State University over the last six years. They will be sorely missed.
