Spivey Hall YPC Presents, Wendy Bennett, Storybook Alive! Oct. 15
The first Spivey Hall Young People's Concert of the semester, Wendy Bennett, Storybook Alive! will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 9:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
This year, Spivey Hall continues a special series of programs for its youngest audience members, KinderKoncerts, tailored to children in pre-kindergarten through second grades, featuring artists who specialize in early childhood music. The series kicks off on Oct. 15 with Wendy Bennett, a talented vocalist who uses puppets, colorful props and her guitar to deliver highly interactive, curriculum-based musical theatre programs to young audiences. Storybook Alive! draws on examples from well-known children’s favorites, such as protagonist Peter Pan, supporting character the Fairy Godmother, antagonist Captain Hook, and the goals of Princess Winnifred in The Princess and the Pea, to help students discover the key elements around which stories are developed.
Spivey Hall’s Young People’s Concerts (YPC) are an integral part of its education program; concerts are 45-50 minutes in length and cost just $2. Advance registration is required, and educators and parents are asked to note carefully the performance times and recommended grade levels for each program. There will be study guides correlated to the curriculum (GPS and CCGPS) with a concentration on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).
While the concerts are intended for children and youth in pre-K to grade 12, Spivey Hall welcomes community members of all ages to the performances. Complete information on YPCs and Spivey Hall’s education program is available at www.spiveyhall.org.
Spivey Hall’s 2014-2015 Educational Programs are supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency – the National Endowment of the Arts.
Spivey Hall is grateful for gifts from the Friends of Spivey Hall that each season support the excellence of its concert presentations and education programs.
