The Department of Campus Life invites the campus community to participate in the Sixth Annual Diversity and Leadership Conference (formerly known as the Diversity and Multicultural Conference) on Thursday, Oct. 9, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
This year’s theme is “Ignite: Opening Minds, Embracing Differences, and Transforming Communities.” The Diversity and Leadership Conference is designed for individuals from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to exchange information, dialogue, and engage in critical thinking exercises to enhance self-awareness, multicultural competency, and leadership skill-set. Participants will hopefully apply information and behaviors learned to advance personally and professionally and to create healthy communities.
There will be two keynote speakers. Mia Mingus is a community organizer, writer and educator working for disability justice and prison abolition via transformative justice and community accountability. The second keynote presenter will be revealed to the campus community during the week of Sept. 8.
